A Cigar Box Purse

A cigar box purse is unique, personal, and with a soupçon of old world charm.

Make your own cigar box purse.

Making a cigar box purse is simple and fun. It’s a true statement about yourself. It’s absolutely unique – no one else will have the identical purse. It’s a great gift for someone that has everything – or appears to have everything.

Directions:

Buy a simple wooden box (lightweight wood), or find a real cigar box. There are still cigar stores as smoking cigars is very much in fashion.

Find some pictures or photos you like, or create a painting on paper, or other flat work of art.

You will need the hardware – handle, hinges, clasp and corners, in a matching metal. You can find this online.

Choose a color of paint that matches the pictures or art and the hardware. Use warm colors and metal together, or cold colors and metal together. Use red and blue with gold-tone or brass, black or white with silver-tone or chromes.

Get a clear or tinted lacquer, depending on the look you want.

Now for the easy part:

Paint the box and let dry.

Glue on the picture or art and let dry.

Add a few coats of lacquer, you may want to use spray rather than a brush, and let dry.

Attach all of the hardware.

Complete!
