Fashion Ave

It started as a few blocks, in a few buildings on 7th Avenue in New York City. Over the years, it has expanded from 7th Avenue to Broadway, 34th Street to 41st Street, a few side streets, the Empire State Building, and a couple of other place.

It's the New York Garment Center. A number of years ago, several streets were given 'honorary names'. 7th Avenue, in the garment center was given the name Fashion Avenue.

Each building covers a certain part of the market, with 7th Avenue having more expensive manufacturers than Broadway. Each building is filled with showrooms from the very inexpensive clothing to designer labels.

These few blocks are the very heart of the apparel industry in the U.S.

Fashionable First Ladies

Do the First Ladies in the past twenty or so years have a clue about fashion? They are all interchangeable, with a couple of exceptions. They mostly look like a cross between the Stepford Wives and Barbies.

Can't they at least find someone to help them have a little style?
Something to make them memorable?

Hillary Clinton was memerable with her sense of fashion. What ever you may think about her personally, or her politics, her style was distintive. Yes, very distinctive. She has no clue about style and fashion. None. Will some great designer please help her? While we're helping her gain a sense of great style and fashion, someone else can help her with her hair.

The last First Lady with a great style, a great sense of fashion, a trendsetter, was Jackie Kennedy. That woman knew how to dress. She was elegant. Just fabulous. She had her own style. Women all over tried to emulate her, and she started quite a few trends.

Jackie was the quintessence of style. This carried thru her entire life. It wasn't just limited to clothes. She taught several generations about Style.

Why can't the other First Ladies do half as well?

Hurricaine Fashion

Hurricaine season has started for 2006. Ernesto didn't do much damage in Florida, it was just a tropical storm there. It picked up speed as it went over the warm waters traveling north. Damage in the Carolinas is expected to be worse than Florida.

What to do for a hurricaine? Most know the basics, stock up on food, water, batteries, etc. Boring. It has to be done, but boring.

There are more interesting items to add to the list. First, a stop at the local liquor store for your favorite beverages, and that of everyone else you know. If they deliver, all the better.

Next, the supermarket. Yes, get the basics. Then get all the goodies for a party. Various cheeses are great. This is always a good time to taste new cheeses. Cavier is also fun. Fresh tomatoes are great this time of year. They make a great salsa. A huge bowl of shrimp is great snacking. Use your imagination. Don't forget mixers!

Call everyone you know - or have room for - that is local and invite them all for a hurricaine party! You might want to ask each to bring something - food, drinks, paper goods. Guests should arrive ASAP. After all, who wants to be alone for a hurricaine?

It's fun to play board games, team games, watch movies, play music and even dance! You could make a list for a scavenger hunt after the hurricaine passes. Course people may be hunting for their cars first...

And clothes? Whatever is most comfortable. The perfect outfit is jeans and a huge comfortable shirt, preferably a t-shirt.

This is riding out the hurricaine In Fashion!
